Made with Bernat Baby Velvet

With the new wave of the importance of accessories in the fashion industry, Scrunchies have definitely made a comeback! Here is a quick and easy pattern to make ouchless velvet scrunchies.

Why Velvet?

Velvet is extremely soft on the hair & brings a unique look to your scrunchies. It’s classy and at the same time, perfect just to throw on if you need to put your hair up!

The Shorthand: SC = Single Crochet // DC = Double Crochet // F.O = Finish Off

What you need:

If Bernat Baby Velvet or Lion Brand Vel-Luxe:

  • I Hook (5.5mm)

  • Ouchless/No Metal Hair Ties. I use GOODY Ouchless

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

If Bernat Velvet or Similar Weight:

  • J Hook (6.0mm)

  • Ouchless/No Metal Hairties. I use GOODY Ouchless

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

Around the Hairband, SC x 22-25 (depending on how ruffley you want your scrunchie). Join with first stitch.

In the next Stitch, DC x4.

In the next Stitch, DC x4.

You will repeat this sequence all the way around the hairband- DC x 3 in one stitch, DC x 4 in the next . When you get back to the start, Join with first stitch & F.O. Weave in your ends & cut off the excess.

Free Pattern: Marshmallow Ghost

Typically when I teach basic Amigurumi Classes, this is the pattern I provide. It’s small, and uses very basic Amigurumi Techniques, so it is a great introduction for those who have always wanted to take their crochet skills  to the next level.

What is even better about this project is that you can customize it anyway you’d like. Use different colors, embroider your eyes, add some cheeks… the possibilities are endless with this pattern! It is super bare bones so you can use some creative freedom! But, if you have any questions.. Please feel free to comment or use the Contact Form.

What you need:

  • Size F (3.75mm) OR G (4.0mm) Hook

  • Worsted Weight Yarn (I used White Red Heart Super Saver or Caron One Pound)

  • Polyfil Stuffing

OPTIONAL: 8mm Safety Eyes

Terminology:

  • Magic Circle = MC

  • Single Crochet = SC

  • Increase = INC

  • BLO = Back Loops Only

  • DEC = Decrease

What you need to know:

You need to know the basics of Crochet and How to Crochet in the Round. I teach this in my in-person classes, so if you are interested in learning how to crochet- check out our class info HERE

Gauge:

There is no need to worry about the size hook or yarn you use. If you do use a different yarn weight or hook though, please keep in mind that your project will come out a bit different from how it is pictured here! If you want to use thicker yarn, totally go for it! Your result will come out a bit bigger than pictured, so be sure to use bigger eyes if you are using them!

The Pattern:

Round 1: MC x 6

Round 2: INC x 6 (12)

Round 3: SC, INC (18)

Round 4-9: SC x 18 (18)  for 6 Rows

** If using safety eyes, place between ROW 3 & 4 with 3 Stitches Between**

Row 10: SC x 18 in BLO (18)

Row 11: SC, DEC (12)

>> Stuff <<

Row 12: DEC all around (6)

F.O & Sew bottom hole to close

Annndd.. That’s it! Super simple pattern, but creates the CUTEST lil’ Ghost. You can choose to customize it in anyway you’d like. Add Cheeks, Make it look toasty, add a little’ stick. The choices for customization are endless.
